I have just gotten a used Latitude CPi and am wanting to install Windows XP
since that's what I'm used to. Can it handle it or or not? Anyone tried
that? Anything to look out for?

Dude, you've got a Dell. Ask them. And that model had a problem with the
batteries shorting out and starting fires. Be careful.

It can be made to work. However, after installing XP you'll want to
turn off/disable "Eye Candy", Use Classic Theme and not use Fast
User Switching. That model only supports up to 256 Megabytes &
if the unit only has 128 Megabytes I'd defer from trying to use XP.
A single 128 module will cost ~$50-70, so it's probably not worth
the expense on a 400-Mhz notebook to take the memory count up
to full capacity. If you do proceed, you'll need to get the last BIOS
flash update to allow ACPI compliancy - or do an F5 at install time
and manually select a "Standard PC" HAL. XP on that Dell should
handle Office, browsing and the like but do not expect to be able
to do any kind of gaming as the video is fairly obsolete by today's
standards. Also battery life is "Poor", you'll most likely need to run
the Latitude on the AC/DC, especially if you use any PC cards in it.

I use xp on a cpir p2 400 slow boot and startup but for
office and internet no problems

more then one app tends to slow down a bit. As suggested
also turn off the bits you don't want / need probably helps
a bit
