I'm going to be building a new PC and I was thinking about buying windows XP OEM

I know that when you install windows XP with an OEM cd, Microsoft says it will not give you support, but that you must go through the supplier for help

Does this mean Microsoft won't let you get updates, patches, or other things of that Nature
What is meant by support

Thanks

Lee;
Yes, OEM can get updates and patches, one of the few things from
Microsoft you do get with OEM.
Support is the free phone support some retail copies get, typically
two incidents.
Also OEM normally can not perform an upgrade, Clean Installation only.
There are also other reasons why OEM is cheaper than retail.
Generally think of OEM as being manufactured, sold and supported by
the OEM and not Microsoft.
Since you are buying OEM, and you are not an OEM, you will have no
support options and little recourse if there are problems.

Yeah, bulls**t. You can get more support from the news groups than you
ever thought possible from MS. You get all of the updates, no problem.
Everyone who builds their own computer buys OEM. If you have the
computer skills of a monkey, you will have no problems with OEM.

Wow, you have a silly attitude for nothing.
I never said no support from newsgroups.
I did state updates are available.

It seems clear to me you just want to whine...about what may be a
mystery to all, possibly to display your vocabulary with asterisks?

You have at least one wrong statement:
"Everyone who builds their own computer buys OEM."
Really?
"Everyone"?
Very easy to prove you wrong.

You should get a grip and not whine whenever so easily.

YOU are the whiner. Please buy MS at the highest price, please,
please, please. Why don't you get a grip and quit giving bullshit as
advice? MVP in your address means nothing. You must give
knowledgeable, reasonable advice. Something you didn't do here.
