After 3 days of researching, reading, downloading,
testing, I've about gone crazy, so please, please help.
----
Upgraded from ME to XP on a Compaq Presario 7EL147
(7000T). Can't get a new Canon LiDE 30 Scanner to
work. Real problem appears to be that ALL of my USB
Devices show as "Unknown Devices" under the corresponding
USB Root Hubs. This includes the keyboard, which does
work as far as normal operations. In Safe Mode, all USB
Devices are recognized for what they are.

1. My PC should be able to operate with XP, right?
2. If so, what else do I need to try? I'm pretty sure
I've seen every article between Msft, Compaq, and Canon,
but perhaps I'm missing something simple.

Thanks in advance!
Chet

PS. I also appear to have a problem with my firewire now
too, which worked fine in ME. Get some Video Decoder
error. Oh well.

Compaq shows ONLY driver updates for ME and W98 for your
computer.

Yeah, I noticed that too, after the upgrade. I ran the
Msft XP Upgrade Advisor, and it didn't appear I would
have any USB problems, etc. Also, I thought I saw many
other posts at Compaq where 7000T series worked with XP.

Any other ideas for workaround? Thx for replying.

Have one more go at Uninstalling them from the Device Manager, rebooting the
PC and see if XP redetects them and installs the correct drivers. If still
nothing, and this is a desktop, think about purchasing a separate PCI USB
2.0 card and use that instead.

Thanks Cari!

I may end up buying that PCI. I found some new info
though>
I can delete USB Hubs & Controllers (2 ea.) in Safe Mode
I restart XP and it recognizes all of my USBs! Great!
But when I do mandatory restart, they all go back to
Unknown!

Sure seems like an XP issue, doesn't it? If it loads them
in correctly during 1st restart, I would think the pc side
of things is okay, yes?

Thanks again!
Chet
