I have insatlled XP and am installing Norton Internet
Security (NIS). After installing NIS and doing a upate
from the internet and rebooting, I can not reach the
internet untill I uninstall NIS. I have turned on the
netbios for my cable modem, that took some time to figure
out.

Any Ideas.

I am running XPs firewall, but would like to get my virus
protection up to date and running. NIS will not enable at
all.

Making your PC's NetBIOS name visible is one of them, the
other is to allow your ISP port scans (Some cable systems
scan the ports on user's PC to ensure that they're
fulfill to their service agreements), do as follow:

1) Open NIS
2) In NIS window, in left pane, click Personal Firewall >
Intrusion Detection, click Exclusions.
3) In the Exclusion dialog box, select the IP address
your ISP uses for port scans (your ISP provides this
info.)
4) Click Exclude, then OK
