I have two computers both running WIN XP Home connected
to a LINKSYS Router/Switch which in turn is connected to
a cable modem.

This is the problem:

They both can share the internet fine, but they can't
file/print share. Will this Router let me do this? or do
I need additional hardware? I can PING one machine named
(BARB) from (ROY) but not the other way around..

Any ideas?

make sure no firewall running on the LAN.

Hi Mark what type of firewall/av are you running?
Just as a thought on what fixed my same problem.
I have nortons 2003 internet security and I had forgotten
to run the NORTONS network setup from within the firewall.
Ran it on both computers and boom everything works perfect
now on the network.
Again just a thought to check your firewall settings.
