I have on my main computer XP and trying to network to
another pc but it has Windows 2000. I can see the
computer in my workgroup but when I try to access it, I
get the message that access is denied to that resource
and also it says there might not be enough server storage
available to process this request. I tried using the
network wizard diskette on the other pc, but since it is
2000 it does not work.
Any ideas????
Thanks,
David A.

David,

What version of Windows XP? Home? Pro?

Not enough server storage:

To access a Win2K computer, you need to login with an account / password
identical to one setup on the Win2K computer.

If XP Pro, check to see if Simple File Sharing (Control Panel - Folder Options -
View - Advanced settings) is enabled or disabled. With XP Pro, you need to have
the SFS settings the same on each computer.

If SFS is disabled, check the Local Security Policy (Control Panel -
Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".

If you set the Local Security Policy to "Guest only", make sure that the Guest
account is enabled on the Win2K computer, and has an identical, non-blank,
password on all computers. If "Classic", setup and use a common account with
identical, non-blank, password on all computers.

And please don't contribute to the spread of email address mining viruses.
Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a bit safer when
posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the internet - never
post your address unmunged.

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.

Thank you Chuck for your reply.
I am using XP Home Edition. Thanks for the tips and
about the email address... I got the opportunity to sign
in with password, and it still said access denied. I do
have the drive shared that I am trying to get to. But I
will check your other tips too...
Thanks again...
David

Windows 2000 is very finicky. A lot of it can be solved
by being careful with Users and Passwords permissions.
Make sure your XP computer has the proper permissions.
There is a good knowledge base article on the subject.
