i installed windows xp on my laptop. it worked fine for 5
days. I brought it on a flight with me and when i got
home and tried to start it up it said it couldn't start
because the "system\32DRIVERS\pci.sys" file was missing.
Then it said it could be replaced or repaired by running
my setup cd again and selecting repair. so i did that.
the in windows setup it said that setup could not start
because "file "setupdd.sys" would not load." and under
that it said "eror code 4". I tried it again and my
computer booted up just fine then it just rebooted in the
middle of my looking at some pics and said all the above
over again but this time the only difference was that the
error code was 7. then next time it was 4 again. I have
no idea what to do. I still have a warranty on my laptop.
should i send it back or can it be fixed.

thanks a bunch,

Della

p.s could you please send it by email. thank you.

No replies by mail. Sorry.

I would check memory. There are all kinds of memory
checkers available, some for free on the Internet.
Depending on your laptop, there might be a bootable
diagnostic CD that came with it that will check and
diagnose all your hardware. Then again, there might be a
secret diagnostic partition on your hard drive that you
can get to by holding a certain key while booting. I would
check documentation start there.

When you do everything right and it still doesn't work,
even when you boot off the Windows CD, I would suspect you
have a hardware problem.
