XP Media to XP Pro

I had a customer go out and buy 5 new PCs after a few with Windows Media
Center edition....is it possible to 'upgrade' to XP Pro without having to do
a complete new install????

That would be a downgrade, and the answer is no. Media Center *is* XP
Professional with a few extra features. The only thing in Professional not
in Media Center is the ability to join a domain. Unless your customer needs
that ability, there's no reason to change.
 
I've got a Dell PC w/Media Center. For various reasons I want to install
plain old XP Pro. The main reason is my HDTV application does not work
properly with MC installed but does under XP Pro. Anyway I can reinstall
with the Dell disk and stop it from loading Media Center and it's hooks?
 
No. You would need to purchase an actual "Full Version"
of Windows XP Professional and perform a "Clean Install".

Just a thought but instead of paying $199-299 for XP Pro to
resolve your HDTV issue, why not spend some time
investigating why your HDTV is not be working in Media
Center?

For faster results, ask your MC HDTV questions in the
either of the following MS newsgroups:

microsoft.public.windows.mediacenter
microsoft.public.windows.mediacenter.hometheaterpc

I searched Google for "HDTV application does not work
properly with MC" and got hits on topics dealing
with MC and HDTV. Check out those links, too.
