There is no supported upgrade path from Windows Media Center Edition
to Windows XP Professional. A "clean install" of Windows XP Pro is required.

It's not an option, and you can't do it.

However why do you want to? Media Center Edition is a superset of
Professional. Everything in Professional is also in MCE, except the ability
to join a domiain. Unless you need the ability to join a domain (and most
home users don't) there's no advantage to doing this.

It would fail. Transitioning from WinXP MCE to WinXP Pro is a _downgrade_.

WinXP Media Center Edition is a _superset_ (iow, it does
_everything_ WinXP Pro can do (except join a domain), plus contains
additional multi-media features) of WinXP Pro.

You can't downgrade-so not possible.Only one thing you can do -a clean
installation.

Doesn't sound like a "downgrade" if it's less capable than XP Pro. Sounds
like it's just more of MickeyMouse's marketing b.s.
