While reconfiguring my wife's laptop with my home network
settings to transfer some large files, I changed the
following:
-removed the domain
-added the workgroup name for my home network
-listed a static IP for the home network

Now I try to log on to the OS, and the computer acts like
it is trying to verify the username and password on a
network, and will not let me log on.

How do I fix this?

How did you "remove the domain" and "add(ed) the workgroup name for my home
computer"? Did you change it from domain authentication to local login? Or
did you just change the existing domain name to that of your home network?

Not bashing, just wanted to make sure. There is a BIG difference in how you
make that transition back and forth.

Also, did you check the options dialog on the login window? Make sure it is
set to "local computer" rather than the domain controller.

Just a few thoughts. Let us know how it goes.

Under System Properties-->Computer Name, I deleted the
domain name under "Domain" and entered the workgroup name
under "Workgroup," then checked the radio button next
to "Workgroup." It then asked for a username and password
to finish making the change, which I gave it. I didn't
see anywhere to change from domain auth. to local login.

I should note that the computer worked fine independant of
the network (local login) before I started screwing with
it.

There is nowhere in the options dialog to select local
computer or domain controller.

Thanks for looking.
