I got a new PC about 2 weeks ago running XP Home. 5 user
accounts set up. Mine is an admin account. A few days
ago a message appeared below my name on the logon screen
saying that I have 32 unread e-mail messages waiting for
me, and when I hover my cursor, it pops up my e-mail
address. I use Outlook Express, and I don't have any
unread e-mails. I checked my account at comcast.net and
all folders are empty. How can I clear this?

Any help would be appreciated. On a scale of 1 to 10 for
home users, I'd rate an 8 or 9.

Download and install TweakUI:

Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP (TweakUI)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

After installing, go to Start > Programs > PowerToys for Windows XP >
TweakUI. Expand "Logon" and uncheck "Show unread mail on Welcome screen".

Note: Unread message alerts may indicate you have unread messages not only
in Outlook Express, but Hotmail and/or MSN email accounts as well.

I wrote about annoying message on logon screen saying I had 32 e-mail messages waiting.

You told me about tweakui so I can disable the message. I'll do that.

Not to be ungrateful, but the alert seems like a useful feature if it works. Do you have any ideas for how I could clear it or reset it?

I've never set up e-mail accounts at Hotmail or MSN, unless that comes automatically with a Passport. But I've checked myMSN, and it says I have not Hotmail waiting, and I haven't subscribed to the MSN service.
