XP Logon - gone.

All user icons at logon on screen have gone..

has anyone had this problem
could be a possible security breach?
windows corruption.. more likely
this is the 3rd laptop i have seen this on,, but have no idea what causes it.
Sick of formating hhd's

and can recover all information, but still want to know what happened



please help
 
not sure whats happening, but instead of formatting, once windows loads hit
ctrl-alt-del at least twice and it might bring up a login screen, if it does
log in as an administrator and then goto 'run' and type 'control
userpasswords2' once in that click the advanced tab and uncheck require
users to press ctrl-alt-del
