Hey all. Got what should be a quick question. Have a customer that's
asking me to quote him an OEM media kit so he can install WinXP. He
already has the OEM licenses, just needs the media.

Is it kosher for me to burn him one, say off an OEM disc I have laying
around? He's got the licenses already.

Comments would be more than welcome. Thx!

James,

Under no circumstances are you allowed to provide copied Microsoft media to
a customer for any reason.
They must procure authorized Microsoft media via an
appropriate/approved/authorized channel.

If they require a replacement OEM media then they must contact the original
OEM that supplied them their original media with licenses and request a
replacement. The OEM is under no obligation to provide this for free.

One would suggest that if someone has the Licence then they would have one
or more copies of the appropriate CD.

However, you need to take this on face value: ask him to show you a product
key and if he wants to use it with a CD other than that originally supplied,
let him go ahead. After all, you didn't give him the Key, it was obtained in
another manner and the guy is going to attempt to use this to install XP. As
long as the key is valid for the install Disc that you supply all's good for
him, he needs to activate before he can use the product.

By the way, if he has a Brand Name PC, the Product Key may not work with a
'white box' OEM installation CD. It should be used only with the
manufacturer's version of XP [as they are slightly modified].
