Hello,

I am using XP Home with all the updates. I have a Dell Dimension 8200.
Every few months for some unbeknown reason, seemingly completely randomly XP
on startup will install a new modem (Generic 56K).

Is there some way I can get it to stop doing this? Everytime it does I have
to reconfigure my fax software.

Oh, by the way, I forgot to mention that Everytime this happens XP starts
the little "Found New Hardware" thing in the system tray.

XP still has a lot of problems...and that could be one of them.

I'd suggest just letting XP have its way the next time...then turn the
modem off in Device Manager.

It may not try to find a new one after that.

Good luck.

Have a nice week...
