I'm having some problems with my XP machine. Every so often I will click on a file, link or whatever and my computer will suddenly reset as quickly as if i had pressed the reset button on the front. It can happen at any time, though most regularly just after the computer has been started up or just after it has reset itself. It can also happen when I do not click anything - i.e. when the computer is just sitting there or is starting up.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be - hardware or software?

Thanks for the help

Posting an error code would help; Rt click "My Computer", Properties,
Advanced Tab, Startup and Recovery "Settings", uncheck "Automatically
restart"in the System Failure area, and "OK"...The next time your machine
"Automatically" restarts as it has been doing, you will receive a Blue
Screen, and it will have a code...Repost here with that code, and possibly
someone can help you further.

Thanks - I'll do that now.

Ok I turned off the restart system automatically feature and got a blue screen from which i got the following info:

--------------

Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

-------------

***STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x000000A4, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xF81A0718)

***emu10k1m.sys - Address F81A0718 base of F8197000, Date stamp 3b6b5fb2

Beginning dump of physical memory
Physical memory dump complete.

-------------

So does anyone have any ideas? I'd be most grateful!

Thanks

Thanks WIllie - you've been a great help. Looks like it's the driver for my SB Live Value card. I'm downloading the new version now.

I use google quite a bit for things like this, but in this case I had no idea which part of the error message was the relevant bit!

Thanks anyway.

James
