I just installed IDE controller to my computer. I can
intall the driver to XP succesfully. When I reboot it
witout connect the controller to the hard drive, the XP
can boot perfectly. The funny thing is that when attach a
hard drive to the controller, keep restarting by it self
after before even go to the windows xp logo. Sometimes it
just hang in the initial boot. I have check the hard
drive and there is no problem with it. Can somebody help
me, please ?

Thank you

btw, my mother board is ASUS A7V8X and the IDE controller
is Silicon Image SiI 0680 ATA/133 Controller

This post doesn't really make much sense, but I am going to take a stab
at it. You have a PCI IDE Controller installed and when you connect the
hard drive/IDE Cable to it instead of the onboard IDE, Windows will not
load?

I have two things. First off, why in the world are you trying to
connect it to a PCI IDE Controller? The onboard is far superior to a
PCI Controller card. The BIOS is 48bit LBA compatible as well. There
is no point in using the PCI Controller card.

Second, you will need to do a repair operation of Windows if you want to
use the PCI Controller card. You will need to load the drivers by
pressing F6 right after booting off your XP CD.

I suggest just sticking with your onboard IDE. Install the latest VIA
Hyperion drivers and you are good to go ;)

Probably has to do with the drivers for your controller.

Try this, it probably will fix your problem

Control panel/System/Advanced tab
"Error report*" button/Disable[/QUOTE]

It has to do with switching the controllers used. You can't change it
like this. You will have to do a repair install if you want to use the
controller card. As I stated before though, there is absolutely no
point in using the controller card on this computer. The onboard IDE is
better than the card AND the BIOS is 48bit LBA compatible.
