I am in a jam, my XP was acting reallly slow after
installing and removing games and variuos programs. So I
decided to 'Re-install' XP. During the attempted re-
install, the computer was forced to power down. Now every
attempt to start the computer, go thru an attempt to
restart the installer, then hangs on a black screen with
a mouse. How can I resume the install successfully, or
restore back to earlier point. I am not able to get the
computer to do anything othetr then 'restart the
installer'. nothing else...Bob

Start a new installation and remove the previous partition XP was installed
on and create a new partition and install XP on that and it should be a nice
clean install.

Andy, thanks for your help...how can I start a new
installation and remove the previous partition XP
created? Every attempt to restart the computer brings me
to the restarting the installer and then hangs...Bob

In that case, get ahold of a windows 98 boot disk or use another machine to
create a boot disk and at the command prompt run the program fdisk (should
be included on the startupdisk) then select number 3 from the menu "delete
partition or logical doss drive" and delete the drive, reboot and boot from
the windows CD. You will come to the point where it asks you which
partition you would like to install windows on and just create a new
partition. DONT FORGET!!!!! Back up any critical data before using Fdisk as
all data on the drive will be lost, and make sure you are removing the
correct drive that windows is located on.

hopefully this document will help you if you are unfamiliar with Fdisk.

Good luck
