I have XP on a Dell computer. It came installed on it.
I am trying to load MS Office Prof on it and get an error
as follows:

Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified
transform paths are valid

I searched on the MS site and found a potential fix using
Data1.exe download. I tried this and received an error
stating that the program trying to be updated is not
correct or valid or something like that.

I have been able to install games and other programs on
this PC, but not MS Off Prof. HELP!!! Thanks, JJ

I don't think this is an office problem...I think it is a
Microsoft installer problem, and XP. Can you still
help???

Tx.

I had this same problem and I came across this forum page looking for
the answer. Now that I solved the problem for myself I took it upon
myself to register here so I could submit how I was able to solve the
problem.

The problem I had was with java, I was getting the "Error applying
transforms" message and couldn't install it. Ran across some info on
the Microsoft site that there is a folder called support tools on my XP
cd. I was able to install these support tools to my programs folder.
I couldn't make heads nor tails of all the little progs because there's
about 50 all with abreviated names so I search "xp support tools" on
google and found the microsoft site where they explain some of them.
Lo and behold there's one called msicuu and what it does is list all
the programs that are registered in microsoft installer and allows you
to remove the troublesome one. For me - java. After that it
installed.

Hope this helps.
