xp installation

Hi i just brought a laptop computer it came with xp home.
i want to install xp pro with service pack 1. when i try to i get a message
that say the virsion of windows that you are trying to install is older than
the current version and i cant continue. the xp pro is on a dvd from my msdn
universal subscription and i select the instalation from the default web
page that autoloads. please help me install xp pro

Hi

You will see that error message if you are trying to upgrade from XP Home to
XP pro with a CD prior to SP2. You will need to make a slipstreamed SP2 CD.

You can download the SP2 file (266 MBs) from here:

or if you have a copy of the SP2 CD, you can copy the xpsp2.exe file from
that CD onto your hard disk/partition and use that:
