I'm trying to fix a friends comp - it was coming up with a blue screen error
while booting (the error is up for a split second but says something about
"memory dump").

I eventually decided to re-install windows, and it went through the copying
files process pretty smoothly. However, when the installation restarted the
computer, it went back to the beginning of the installation. Tried
repeatedly and it just keeps doing the same.

Any ideas?

Thanks for any help anyway,

Gavin Leigh

is your friend running anyother version of windows besides xp
were there any error messages
I found a couple of ms knowledge base articles that may or may not apply. One has to do with Symantec software, which must be disabled before the installation process
article # 318018 this is if you have Symantec pcAnytime software on your computer
another one i
article #282296, If you start Microsoft Windows XP Setup from the 16-bit Winnt.exe file, when Setup exits and the computer restarts, Setup restarts in an endless loop.
