XP INSTALLATION KEY

I have a employee that has a compaq that the hard drive failed. I offered to help him and I installed a new 80gb hdd. I reinstalled his xp oem and I couldnt locate his key. I tried several keys that I own and they failed. I found one on the internet and used it successfully. After all the loading and configuring was done I found his key on the front of the computer under the cd storage bin.

Question, can I change his key and get him registered with the proper key without reloading the entire program?

He needed it to work for christmas as his camera was full and it needed cleaned up

If this does not work, a reload is necessary:

You should NEVER use someone else's key to activate Windows.
If one of your keys had worked, you may have been denied its use on
your own computer by Microsoft during a future reload.

Also if you would have posed your question here first, someone would
probably have told you where to locate the Product Key on the
computer.

Using the correct installation CD and Product Key,
a "repair install" is required:
