Hi FOlks,

Been trying to install XP on a new SCSI system. Turns out
many of my problems to this point was a bad stick of RAM.
After changing the RAM, I tried to load XP again. It
copied all the files except for one, then went on to
reboot. During the installation part, a message popped up
that said:

"The signature for Windows XP Pro is invalid. The error
code is 800b0100.
No signature was present in the subject. Fatal Error.
Setup failed to install the product catelogs."

I reformatted the drive and began again. This time I got
appx. 20 files that has problems copying. This is a new,
OEM copy of XP Pro.

Why is this not copying correctly to my hard drive?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Gary

I've got the same type of problems, although I'm not using
a SCSI system and my RAM hasn't given me any problems.
I've got exactly the same messages and inability to copy
at least 26 files. I've had the same signature error and
had to reformat, and am still having problems. Using the
new OEM copy of Windows XP Pro. I am having a little more
luck on this try after I changed the ribbon cable to the
HD.
Any help would be appreciated. TIA

Because the stick of RAM is not the only bad hardware in your system.
Test RAM again, test hard drive, test motherboard.

Files not being copied during the install are, almost always, caused by
questionable RAM. Get good quality RAM that matches the specifications
called out by your motherboard manual. Don't try to save dollars here. You
will pay for it. You can also try putting the RAM in another slot!

.
file copy errors =

1 mismatched speeds of cdrom and harddrives
2 bad ram
3 bad xp cd
4 bad cdrom drive
5 incorrect jumpering/cabling
6 incorrect bios configuration
7 just plain bad hardware
8 in your case could be you need new bios and /or new
scsi drivers installed at the f6 prompt at beginning of
boot to the xp cd.
9 drive overlay software on the hard drive
to see if its your scsi bios/or drivers
try installing to the ide instead.

I had a similar installation problem. After talking with Msft tech
support for over an hour, the final suggestion was to first copy
entire contents of XP installation disk onto the hard drive and then
install XP from the hard drive.
Guess what, it WORKED. Best, Aaron
