I am trying to upgrade from 2000 pro to xp pro. I get to the point in the
install when it restarts the computer the first time. I see the windows load
up screen but then my computer goes to a black screen. I have removed the
hardware that is not needed, I have updated my BIOS, I have run the windows
check within the install to see if my computer is up to the task. None of
these things have fixed my problem. I have also run diagnostics on my ram
and hardrive with neither finding errors. If you have any ideas please let
me know.

What kind of video/monitor setup?

I have an LCD monitor and it was connected to the digital connector on my
video card. The initial install of XP gave a black screen until I changed
the monitor connection to the analog connector. Then XP installed and
started just fine. After monitor was correctly identified I switched back to
digital - everything runs ok now.

By any chance was your original Windows 2000 installed on a partition
that uses cluster sizes beyond 4K ? - If that's the case, XP (SP2) will
not boot from that condition. It will allow the install to run, but usually
if that condition exists you'll see a "Disk I/O error" when XP attempts
to start/boot. Otherwise, have you tried to re-start the installation ?

Hopefully, your original 2000 instance is imaged (Right ?).

I have partitioned my hard drive but I am not getting the "Disk I/O error"
when it attempts to boot. I have tried many times to re start the install
with no luck. I had a friend build my computer so im not sure if 2000 is
imaged. How do I find this out?

How do I do this?

Well, getting into your bios depends on the brand of pc you have. 50% of
pcs, and almost every home built or small builder pc you hit the Del key
when you turn on the pc.

I have gone as far as removing AV completely and still will not install.
Black screen continues to appear.
