XP Install Problems due to Cracked CD

Can anyone assist with a problem I have- which is sort of
the reverse? I bought an XP OEM Home edition for my son's
computer, and it successfully installed over his Windows
ME edition. I bought another Full Edition (upgradeable)
version of XP Home for myself, and the CD cracked. I
tried installing my son's onto my computer as I have a
separate Prod ID and it wouldn't load, saying that the
Product ID (which hasn't been loaded before) is invalid.
Is his CD linked to the Prod ID installed onto his PC?.
Can I get a replacement CD from MS?

I happen to get an error message that states "Windows XP
Setup does not support upgrading from Microsoft Windows 98
to Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition".

Thanks!

The OEM code won't work with retail software. As far as a replacement CD, MS
will replace a retail CD, but not an OEM one.

Thank you.

Hello,

You can get replacements of CD or Product Keys by contacting Microsoft
Product Support Services. To locate the appropriate phone number for your
product, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

To replace OEM software media, you must contact the OEM where you acquired
the hardware and software. If that OEM is no longer in business, you can
contact Microsoft Sales Information at (800) 426-9400 for more information
about alternatives for acquiring genuine software. To determine whether
your software is eligible for replacement, you can call the OEM System
Builder hotline at (800) 325-1233 Monday - Friday, 5:30 AM - 5:00 P.M.
Pacific time zone. To determine whether your software was installed on your
computer when you purchased it, visit the following Microsoft Web site:

Sincerely,
Jeff Wade [MS]
