Ho,

I have upgraded my XP Pro to a later copy of it with SP2 and it installed okay
but when I came to the 2nd XP logo screen, I get a quick flash of the blue
screen and it goes to reboot again.

I got into safe mode okay and saw my LAN was in 'Other' with a ? so I installed
the driver and this is fine, but still get the same quick blue screen which I
unfortunately can't read quick enough.

Is there place i can see what may be causing this?

Thanks,

rock

Thier is no "2nd XP logo screen" on start-up..Thiers XP splash,& XP
logon,also,
thier is no "upgrade" from xp home to pro,or xp pro to xp pro w/SP2.The up-
grade is for older windows OS,to go from one to the other,a clean install is
required...

First of all ignore Andrew E. and his advice! He is a stupid idiot who
constanly posts incorect advice, at times his advice it outright dangerous!

To disable the auto reboot on crash behaviour you can try one of the
following option.

1- When the computer starts press F8 and see if the option to disable
"Automatically restart..." is available.

2- Boot to Safe Mode and see if you can go in the Control Panel |
System | Properties | Advanced | "Startup and Recovery" and change the
"Automatically restart" option.

3- Boot to Safe-Mode and go in the registry and change the AutoReboot
value from 1 to 0 at the following key(s):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSetnnn\Control\CrashControl\.

When booted in Safe-Mode you will have to change the AutoReboot value in
one (or all) of the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSetnnn keys. You
will see ControlSet001, ControlSet002 and maybe ControlSet003. When a
Windows NT/2000/XP computer boots it will read one of the ControlSetnnn
keys and the CurrentControlSet will be created from the numbered key.
The control set selected will depend on the boot option selected. For
example, if you select to boot normally but didn't change the value in
the correct ControlSetnnn key the computer will not halt on the BSOD.
To find out which ControlSetnnn key will boot look at the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Select key.

First off, there is an upgrade from XP home to XP pro, the upgrade version
of Professional works on a computer with XP Home on it as XP Pro is a higher
operating system with much more customization. Secondly you say that the
upgrade is for older windows operating systems. Service Pack 2 for windows
XP IS newer than original windows XP and service pack 1. Granted he did not
need to reinstall windows with a Service Pack 2 version as he could have
just had the update downloaded or sent on a CD, but thats a different story.
Get facts straight before posting that someone has to do a clean install
please.

Andrew E., our resident troll in these Windows XP newsgroups, repeats
this same nonsense over and over and over again, no matter how many
times he's been corrected and no matter how many times he's been
pointed to the Microsoft Knowledge Base article clearly stating
otherwise: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/292607

Yes, the regular Windows XP Professional Upgrade CD works fine to
upgrade from XP Home, and in fact, it's the easiest, and most-likely
successful of all possible upgrades, since so little has to be
changed.

Hi guys,

This is what I did exactly. I have been told that it takes for ever to dload
all the patches to SP1 and 2 and that it would be easier and quicker to upgrade
over my early version XP with a recent version that I had on another computer
whose motherboard has gone to heaven, so it was just sitting there.

I used the newer Cd and it went through all the motions fine and when it was
time to boot, it did but a very quick blue screen came up and it just went
around again.

I went and unticked the Auto start on error messages and saw the screen which
says this..

(STOP Ox0000007E) (0C000005,0XF7249184,0XF7A91D3C,0XF7A91A38)

I saw the stuff on MS about the STOP 7E but am hoping there is an easier fix as
it seems a little confusing.

I looked at the windows/ntbtlog.txt after enabling it but there are about 20
drivers that did not load and I am not sure where and what they belong to.

Is the a way I can see what the exact driver was that caused the problem, fix
it then see what the next driver is and go on that way until I have fixed them all?

Thanks again guys.

These are the drivers that DID NOT load..

I included the first one that did load as I am not sure if there are supposed
to be 3 files of that same name in the one directory.. that seems weird.
