XP install, machine shuts down before I can type

I have just built a new machine and am now trying to
install a brand new copy of XP Home from scratch. During
setup if I am not quick enough in typing a response the
machine shuts down. The hardware is ok, I can run dos
from a floppy ok, do all the diagnostics, I have tried
loading XP setup from the 6 floppies but the same thing
happens, it copies the files in, says Windows is starting
up and then shuts the machine down. I then have to leave
the power off for a minute before I can restart the
computer. I have used the Func 7 option in start up -
same problem. The machine is not running hot. Any clues?
My next step is going to try to install another version
of Windows, but I would prefer to solve this and install
XP in from the start.

just to let you know that I have found the problem, it
was overheating - my fault, heatsink on incorrectly
(wrong way around - so not enough contact) = working ok
now!
Thought I'd leave the message in case anyone else has the
same problem - now going to install XP - hope there are
no other probs

Thank you Martin. Not enough people that find a solution come back to
pst that solution for others that might be having the same problem. This
is almost a perfect example on how Usenet is suppose to work. You may
have just found the answer to a problem I've been experiencing with shut
downs. I realized that a heatsink could go on the wrong way.
