Hi Friends,
I have Windows XP Professional installed on my D: and
Windows 2000 on C:
My issue is that my system has infected by the RPC worm
(blaster worm). This is fine, I have somehow stopped that
by going into Services --> RCP & RPC Call and changed the
settings to "Take No Action" from "Restart the Computer".
This has stopped the computer from shutting down when I
am online.
The worm struck my system when I went online after a long
time. I created the Dial up Connection. While creating I
received the error that stated:
"Unable to create the specified connection. This can be
caused by insufficient memory or not enough disk space."
But this is not the case, all drives have sufficient
space and memory is 256 MB RAM which however shows as 248
when right-clicked on My Computer (This is another issue).
In spite of the above mentioned error, the connection is
created through which I can go online. Now, when I right-
click on the Connection and select Properties -->
Advanced tab (to enable the XP ICF), I cannot because
there is no option such and instead stated as:
"Windows cannot display the properties of this
connection. The Windows Management Instrumentation [WMI]
information might be corrupted. To correct this, use
System Restore to restore Windows to an earlier time
[called a restore point]. System Restore is located in
the System Tools folder in Accessories."
This is the only exact message that is displayed under
the "Advanced" tab.
Now, when I go to System Restore to Restore Windows to an
earlier time, there are not points, not even the points
that I created manually. I have also tried rebooting the
computer in "Last Unknown Settings" by tapping the F8
key. Nothing has helped.
What I think is that the only option left is to do a
repair install but I do not to take this step in haste
and that's why I believe in you guys.
I have full faith in you guys that someone might come up
with the resolution for the above. My only issue is to
make the ICF work and the error that comes while creating
the connection.
Any help on this is muchly appreciated.
Regards
Nilesh
