Can anyone throw me a link or two, that's a bit more informational than the
crap I've found so far on MS's site.
I'm looking for product description that contains a few simple specs. , so
that you can see what you don't get in XP Home compared to what you do get
in XP Pro, for example. A sort of succinct comparison type review for
example.

TIA

I don't go to MS so I don't know what's there, but I was looking for
the same info a few days ago and found this helpful:

If one is not going to set up a business network, Pro-features don't
matter much imo. PGP works great and can be used with any OS,
including Home to encrypt files/folders.

The only feature Pro really has that a Home user might want (imho) is
dynamic disk support. From what I understand this allows you to make
the kind of changes that require reboots, without rebooting.

HTH a little.

I suggest

for the list of things that are in Pro only. In addition Pro will
support ten simultaneous connections in a network - Home only five

Aside from these additional matters the systems are identical - using
the self same files for each

Greetings --

Actually, the comparison matrix on Microsoft's site is very clear
about the differences.

The two versions are _identical_ when it comes to performance,
stability, and device driver and software application compatibility,
but are intended to meet different functionality, networking,
security, and ease-of-use needs, in different environments. The most
significant differences are that WinXP Pro allows up to 10
simultaneous inbound network connections while WinXP Home only allows
only 5, WinXP Pro is designed to join a Microsoft domain while WinXP
Home cannot, and only WinXP Pro supports file encryption and IIS.

"Which is better?" That depends entirely upon the uses to which
you put your computer, the network environment in which you'll operate
it, your specific security needs, and your level of computer
knowledge.
