Jack,

I'm not sure I understand your question or point but,
As far as I am aware AMD64 (the AMD 64-bit processor technology project)
resulted in the Opteron family of CPUs and Athlon is still a generation of
32-bit processors.
We have already shipped two 64-bit releases of Windows XP for Intel Itanium
and Itanium II processors.
We have not yet shipped any operating systems that target the Opteron
platform.
It should be noted that even AMD are targeting the Opteron at the
professional workstation and server markets and not the home user.

From
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_8826_8832,00.html
The AMD Opteron processor is available in 1 to 8-way servers and 1 to 4-way
workstation solutions. Usage segments for the processor include:

a.. Worldwide Enterprises, Small-Medium Businesses, and
Government/Education Institutions
b.. Companies who require faster database transactions, or support for
more users on e-commerce type applications
c.. Customers needing quick graphics response such as CAD and DCC
d.. Industries with computational intensive tasks for financial modeling
and scientific applications

So that means all off the shelf badged PCs and OEM licenses will be Pro in
future, Home edition may aswell die already once the AMD 64 platform takes
over the shelf, Intel wíll also not be there much on the consumer store
shelf space for 64bit.

DID I FUCIN SAY ANYTHING ABOUT OPTERN YOU NINNEY

GO FREAKIN READ THE NEWS.

Its branded as ATHLON 64 for the CONSUMER MARKET

NINNEY.

Jack,

AMD Opteron is the current shipping AMD64 CPU.
Athlon64 is a future as yet unreleased product
see

and

Either way AMD Opteron or AMD Athlon 64 - we do not as yet have an OS
offering that is nativly targetted at these processors.
