XP home upgrade ?

Ok I borrowed a copy of XP home and I have a list of working activation
codes

now I see it is an upgrade copy
the book has a section on a fresh install
I have a new clean HDD
is there anything in need to know about?

also I assume that I will not be able to register and recieve updates since
I am using a generated activation
if no one else uses my random key can I still register if I take some
precautions?
 
If you do not have a Windows version currently loaded on your computer, then
the Upgrade Version is of no use. You would need a FULL VERSION.

Or at least you'd need the install media of a previous version to pop in
during eligibility check. -Dave
 
You cannot legally do what you are attempting. It violates the licensing
agreement. What you need to do is purchase Windows XP.

You have a clean hard disk, but an upgrade copy of XP - if there is no OS on
the drive, what are you going to upgrade??

Also, once you install another OS and upgrade to XP, it will only work for
30 days - the XP evaluation period. After that, the PC will refuse to open
windows until you phone microsoft and give them your license key and they
give you an activation key. If you don't have a genuine license, this
process will not work!
 
Just because you are uptight about some laws, dosent mean you need to call
me a Troll, and get everyone else after me too. I'm just doing the best I
can with what I have. I've never lied, i am definatly am not trying to
impress anyone with my astounding knowledge of information technology, in
fact I have been living on the road for a few years and have missed a few
things.
