One problem with upgrading a laptop is that there are often
proprietary hardware and XP drivers may be hard to find
because the laptop manufacturer wants to sell you a new
machine and not give you new drivers for an older machine.
You can buy a Microsoft OEM XP CD for about 1/3-1/2 the
price. You have to have a clean hard drive to install, but
if you have a partitioned drive, you can install to a
freshly formatted C: drive.
The OEM CD is the same as a retail full except you don't get
tech support or the big books, just a little CD, COA and a
piece of paper. The OS cannot be moved.

I have a couple of desktops, one came with XP and the other I upgraded to
XP. I would like to upgrade my laptop (it has WIN 98 SE) to XP. Does MS
offer any reduced rates for my situation.
There is a modest 15%, but you would probably do better at
a discount
store. First make sure the machine is adequate - if a
laptop that came
with Win98 it probably has nowhere near enough RAM (you want
more than
128MB) and the CPU speed may be low too. then Read Gary
Woodruff's
article on upgrading to XP at

Do they offer any type of senior
discounts?
Sorry - no they don't
