1. Yes, you can upgrade Windows XP Home toWindows XP Professional.
2. Uninstall any third-party antivirus or firewall programs.
3. Disconnect all peripheral hardware devices, but not the monitor, keyboard or mouse.
4. While at your XP Home desktop screen, insert the XP Pro CD in the CD drive.
5. Select the default "Upgrade" option....do not select "New Installation".
6. Reinstall your antivirus program & turn-on the firewall.
7. Visit the Windows Update website and download the necessary updates.
8. Perform a Disk Cleanup and Defrag the hard drive afterward.
9. Visit the support website of the manufacturer of the laptop and download
any available Windows XP compatible drivers.

| I have a user that bought his laptop and had XP home put
| on it. My company has bought an XP Pro license, that I
| would like to put on the same laptop. Can I do an inplace
| upgrade over XP Home, or does it have to be a clean
| install?
|
| I am under a time crunch here, and any help would be
