Buy a copy of XP Pro Upgrade, insert CD, follow instructions. Before you do
this it's a good idea to cleanup the disk, run a thorough checkdisk, defrag,
and backup anything you can't afford to lose...just in case the unthinkable
occurs.

There is no special upgrade version just for this, but the regular XP Professional Upgrade works fine (although it doesn't say so on the box).
But are you sure you want to do this? Are you aware that XP Home and Professional are identical except that Professional includes a few features (mostly related to security and networking) missing from Home? Most home users don't need and would never use these extra features and will see no benefits by upgrading.

To add to what Ken Blake said, once you go to XP Pro you cannot go back
without doing a Reformat & Restore so think very carefully before making the
jump. Good Luck. Stan

There is a big difference in xp home and pro. I know it
feels like a serious rip off paying up to roughly $200
for the upgrade version, but after installing the pro, I
did not have a single crash, freeze up, and the speed was
faster.

If you're saying that XP Professional is faster than XP Home, that's not correct. They are identical in speed. They are also idential with respect to immunity from crashes and freezes.

It really is worth it and I would always suggest
spending the extra money and upgraded to xp pro vs going
back to 98. XP home was and is horrible.

Nonsense. XP Professional and Home are identical except that Professional includes a few features missing from Home. Unless you use those features (and most home users will never use them) there's no way to tell the two apart.

Xp pro is great
and anyone ever purchasing a new computer needs to demand
and the sales rep to have xp pro on there vs home.

Nonsense. get XP Professional if you need or want one or more of its extra features. In all other cases, it's simply a waste of money.

Greetings --

WinXP Pro is neither faster (Unless you have dual CPUs; WinXP Home
doesn't support SMP.) nor more stable than WinXP Home. The two
versions are identical in these regards. If upgrading to WinXP Pro
solved any problems you were experiencing, performing a repair
installation of WinXP Home would have had the same affect.
