XP Home + SP2 + Disk thrashing

To help a mate out

XP Home + SP2 - i wont mention the "system idle" being 90% as i've just
researhed thats ok !

but hes adamant since sp2 its taking minutes to open anything e.g. explorer

and hard drive light is always thrashing

hes ex-IT so his PC cant be totally spywared as he runs a business from it

hes virus checked ok and firewalled

any pointers ?

What is the amount of RAM memory you have?

This could be a number of problems, such as your hard drive failing,
defrag needed, or it may even be bad memory. Windows XP has lots of
utilities to monitor the system. I suggest you pickup a good book
that would detail some of the options in using these utilities.
