I have decided to reinstall Win XP Home on my computer because of SP 2
update and other problems.
If someone could point me to where I can get detailed instructions to do
this I will appreciate it very much.

reboot the pc with the windows cd in the drive, it will install step by
step, it will erase your hard-drive of all your files, if you want to
keep some files back them up to a cd/dvd first.

Your choice of course, but I personally think that reinstalling is almost
always the wrong approach to solving problems. It's usually way overkill and
there are usually much simpler solutions.

You don't say anything about what the problems are, but if you just
reinstall and never find out what caused the problems, you will very likely
quickly repeat the behavior that caused them and end up back where you
started.

But if you want to, just boot from the Windows XP CD (change the BIOS boot
order if necessary to accomplish this) and follow the prompts for a clean
installation (delete the existing partition by pressing "D" when prompted,
then create a new one).

You can find detailed instructions here:

or here http://windowsxp.mvps.org/XPClean.htm

Thanks for the reply.

My biggest and persistant problem is my couputer's inability to install SP 2
in my XP Home.
I keep getting "Access Denied" whether I try the installation via the
internet, or with Win XP SP 2 CD.
I have asked for help in here (Windows Updte), and I have received many
helpful responses, but most of them require me to modify the regisrty, and
I'm not comfortable with that.
But to be honest I'm not comfortable with a reinstall either.
Thanks for the reply.

The first time you do somethig it is natural to be alittle apprehensive
about it, but just follow the instruction that you were giving in the
windows update group and double check them and you will be alright.
Here is a free and very good program to backup your registry before you
start.

I was following Microsoft kb 873148 to try to update to SP 2.
I got along fine until I got to Step 3b.It asks me to locate the registry
subkey that I found in Step 2d. I did find it in Step 2d, but I could not
find it in the Registry editor.
Please advise, and thank you.
