4 PCs 2 XP home, 2 Win98SE. networking is ok for 3 PC's. But if you try to
browse number2 (XPhome) a message pops up saying . No permission to access
\\number2.

Funny thing is I can map drives to \\number2\sharename and also add printers
the same way.

I have removed zonealarm, and the XP firewall. also made sure netbios is
enabled over tcp/ip. they all have static ip's and can all ping ok.

Have mapped drives to the shares so the main problem is overcome, but it
still pops up the error if you browse through network neighborhood.(places)
guest a/c makes no diff. The usernames are different although at 1 point i
created the exact same account on number2 as all the other PC's and the
problem still persisted.

Any ideas?

XP Home has a limit of 5 concurrent logins to a shared network
resource, and in that context each logged in user on the XP Home
machine might count in this total.

So if there were 3 other machines plus 3 logged in users on the XP
Home machine that would give 6 total.

Ok but i CAN still use the resource, simply not browse the PC to see its
shares, acess to the shares isn't restricted. so if you ask the Pc what
shares it has (Network neighborhood / places) it says no -get lost, but if
you go directly to the shares (mapped drive / typed UNC path) theres no
problem.

Is the guest account active on the problem XP Home PC? If not try
activating it. Control Panel - Users.
