We have a file server running on XP Home, SP2. There are 7 users in this
office that need to access this server at the same time. XP Home only allows
for 5 concurrent users. Is there a way around this without upgrading to XP
PRO? If not: I have a retail version of XP PRO (pre SP2) that was previously
installed on another machine. That machine is dead. What do I need to do to
be able to use that XP PRO on this server?

Distribute shared files between two and more computers.
Uninstall service pack and use retail CD for upgrade. Sooner or later you
would want to perform a clean install.

Thanks. Redistribution of files isn't practical for our needs. If I need
to upgrade, is there anything special I need to do to be able to use the XP
PRO version I previously installed?

According to EULA, you may not use the Product (Microsoft Windows XP
Professional) to permit any Device (computers or other electronic devices)
to use, access, display or run other executable software residing on the
Workstation Computer (a single computer, such as a workstation, terminal or
other device), nor may you permit any Device to use, access, display, or run
the Product or Product's user interface, unless the Device has a separate
license for the Product... A license for the Product may not be shared or
used concurrently on different Workstation Computers.
(Re-reading all the above I can't find a place for the Device running any
other OS than the Product).

If a box is dead it's dead. Soooo from within working XPH without SP1/2 you
run Pro setup off CD. Setup will ask Retail Product ID.
