I have heard that XP Home does not use memory over 256
Megs and you need XP Pro to use and manage memory over
that. I recently purchased an HP computer with XP Home on
it and 1 Gig of RAM. I want to be sure that XP Home is
fully utilizing this or do I need to move up to XP Pro.
Feel free to email me directly if you would rather at

Thanks

That's incorrect. Both XP Home and XP Pro can utilize up
to 4 GB of RAM, so you are fine.

Windows XP Home Edition fully supports and will use up to 4GB of RAM
(motherboard hardware permitting)
You do not need to upgrade to Windows XP Professional to address your memory

Will these stories never cease? With every version of Windows we get
these wild rumors about RAM limits that are totally unsubtantiated.

Windows XP, both Home and Pro, are designed to use up to 4 gb of
physical RAM.

There is a configuration settings and some special considerations if
you go beyond 3 gb of RAM and at present it is generally considered
advisable to stick with 2 gb or less.

If you use your computer in such a way that it requires 1 gb of RAM to
meet the total memory requirements of the loaded Windows components,
active application programs, and open user data files then your
Windows XP Home will do so.

There is no need to move to XP Pro for memory management or
utilization purposes.

Good luck

Completely false. Both Home and Professional can use exactly the
same amount--4GB.

TOTALLY wrong. (And a new incorrect rumor - I had not heard that one).
The memory management of Home and Pro is identical, and both can use 2GB
or more (4 in principle, but there are complications arise above 3GB)
