I got XP Home edition overe 2 years ago as a gift and
tried to install it. With much difficulty I di manage to
get in installed and license registered.
Just after had a crash I bought another computer with a
different os and now it's 2 + years later and I cannot
get it to install. Since I have the license can I get
another copy of XP Home from Microsoft?
The CD is either scratched or ??? because there is always
a file missing or corrupted on the install. I've waisted
enough time trying to install it.

Thanks for your help

Jeffery,

Have you tried to install from the bootable XP CD? Set your BIOS to boot
first from the CD and give that a try. This tends to be less problematic
than tying to install from whatever OS you have on the machine currently.

But BEFORE you try another install, run the compatibility utility from the
XP CD and make sure that the BIOS and HW are up to date and will be
supported under XP.

If you have trouble reading CDs, get a CD cleaner and run it. Radio Shack
and most computer stores sell them.

I doubt that another CD will solve your problem, but if the above doesn't
resolve your problem, by all means get a replacement CD as noted in the
previous reply.
