Hi
I get to the point where it asks me where to install XP.
I select the partition and i select "Delete" since i want to do a clean
install. It starts examining the partition and says partition cannot be
deleted.

Next time i jst hit "Install" when i get choice of partitions.
It asks me if i want to format and i say yes and the formatting goes on and
then i get a error message says that an error has occured

finanly i get 0x0000008E error and it quits.
i guess some of the sectors on my hard drive are corrupted.
Any way to repair the hard disk?BTW i have dell inspiron laptop

Thanks

Does it have a floppy drive? If so, download the floppy from the hard
drive's web site and use it to format and partition the drive instead of
XP. Once you've done that, enter the BIOS and set it to boot from the
CD/ROM, stick the XP CD in the CD/DVD ROM and exit and save from the BIOS.

USB Floppy drive. Next time, don't buy a computer unless it comes with
one. I know that it's the "in" thing to dis floppy drives but they have
saved my butt a number of times and I would never, ever, consider
getting a computer without one, especially being as they are so cheap.

Download a drive diagnostic utility from the drive manufacturer's web site.
That will create either a bootable CD or floppy. Look for the bootable CD
version. Boot from that and run the diagnostics on the drive. If it works
ok use the drive manufacturer's zero fill utility to write zeros to the
drive, then try the install.
