I have tried several times to uprade from Win 98SE to XP
Home and been unsuccessful due to the computer hanging
after the Windows XP screen has run for approx 1 minute.

I then reformatted my hard drive and tried a clean install
with all accessories removed (printer, scanner, network
card, motheboard audio disabled). After loading XP files,
Windows XP screen apears for aout one minute, I ear the
hard drive run for about 10 second, and then Iget a black
screen and see no hard drive activity (via LED).

Does this indicate some type of upgrade required to make
Xp Home install?

Thanks for any help.

Did you run the upgrade advisor to insure all your HW is compatible?

Did you reformat or repartition? I suggest deleting partitions and let XP
create them.

Did you upgrade mobo BIOS from OEM website?

Try resetting BIOS to default / safe settings.

Try moving PCI cards to different slots.
