As Jon said, Internet Explorer can act as an FTP client. There's also
a command-line client that comes with XP. Open a command console ("DOS
Box") and type ftp.

Thank you Tim but I'm afraid I don't know what a 'command console' is. I'm
barely semi-literate with this Pc. Could I get a 'Dick and Jane' explanation
of that somewhere?

The Command Console is also called a "Dos Box", although there's
actually no DOS in XP. Open one by choosing "Start|All
Programs|Accessories|Command Prompt", or using Start|Run and typing
cmd in the box.
