Not sure what to do. I get this error after it goes through a bunch of system checking prior to performing the actual installation of the upgrade:

"Setup cannot locate the windows installation you want to upgrade"

I have Windows 98 SE 4.10.22224 so I shouldn't be getting this error. Any suggestions?

Try installing xp cd,exit the info page, restart computer, boot to xp cd (you
might need to adjust for this in BIOS-boot device priority),select at info page,
install xp.It might ask for 98 cd,it then formats the hd,and does a clean
install.

Does the normal upgrade from Win 98 to WinXP HE format the hd? It was my understanding that it kept your files and settings. I would like to not have to do a complete reformat for this OS upgrade. I don't really want any data loss.

I am not sure what WinXP HE is, but an upgrade of anytime should not format
the data. With that said, it is ALWAYS a good idea to back up your data
before any upgrade.
