XP Home edition versus Office

If I have Windows XP Home Edition on my computer but want
to add XP Office to get more of the professtional
programs, is this a problem?

No, one is an operating system (WindowsXP Home), the other is a suite of
applications (OfficeXP). they are totally compatible.

You are confusing the OS with an Office Suite.

Be sure to check for updates, quite a few for OfficeXP
http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/
You should have no problems with installing on WinXP Home.

You know, you could get OpenOffice instead of Microsoft Office XP and
you will save yourself a few hundred bucks.

No. The Microsoft Office suite, from Office 97 up through Office
2003, all work fine on WinXP.
