How do I determine if I have the 32 bit or 64 bit version?
the question comes up because several of the recommended
Critical Updates specify they are for the 64 bit version.
Thanks

If it's the home edition it is 32-Bit. and unlesss u
spent around $1000 for you rprocessor it is also 32-bit

Thanks Chris.
This is what I suspected, but just wanted to make sure.

Kind of makes me wonder, why 64 bit updates are recommended by Microsoft
scan of my computer????

You have the 32-bit edition. Anyone who has the 64-bit version
knows it by the two large dents in his wallet--one for 64-bit
Windows, the other, even larger dent, for the special hardware
needed to run it.

The following is what raised the question in my mind regarding which XP
version I had.

I used Control Panel>Windows Update to determine which Updates were
available for my computer. Presumably, Microsoft scans my computer and
presents me with lists of Updates-Critical and Recommended.
Under Critical Updates, one was Q815021, Security Update.

If you have a Pentium, AMD, etc. chip, you are running the 32-bit version of
Windows XP. If you have an Intel Itanium chip, you are running the 64-bit
version of Windows XP.

John

I don't believe there is a 64-bit version of Home Edition. If there is,
I've never heard of it.

Do you mean that if I install 2 installation of 32 bit XP that I will not
have 64 bits. Darn!

Hi;

If you haven't already, suggest you go ahead and install the 32-bit version.
