Can I use SP1a to reinstall SP1 without additional risk?
Gateway desktop and Gateway laptop can't share files or
folders when trying to open shared folder on laptop.
However laptop can read/write shared files on desktop.
The two computers are connected to a Gateway router, the
laptop wirelessly. The problem began after trying to
restore from a saved event on a laptop. Disabled
firewalls. Fixed ip addresses. Can't even map a network
drive. Sharing enabled. OSs' are XP Home SP1
Microsoft knowledge base article 329441 acknowledges a
problem when tyring to use a restore point on XP.
Corrupts the registry. The fix is to reinstall SP1.
Microsoft no longer has XP Home SP1 available. SP1a
doesn't have the Java VM.
Can I use SP1a to reinstall over SP1 without additional
risk? Perhaps I should first try to remove SP1 before
installing SP1a.
Thanks so much for your thoughts,
Alex
