xp help

I tried to install windows xp and after it is done
installing I get
error like
folders and files missing or corrupted, so I tried a clean
installation
and this time I got a little further and I tried to do a
windows
updated
and nothing would update all updates failed
so I bought a new hard drive because one error said hard
drive might be
corrupted and I tried to do an other clean recovery with
the cd that I got with my
computer
when I bought it and that was windows ME and I still get
the errors and
windows ME I get registry error also
i have had my whole computer check and everthing is
working great
I have no idea what could be wrong

have you got any friends - who will let you connect your
hard drive to their pc? If its not the HDd its the CD
which is scratched or something.
