Have had computer for 1 1/2 years with no trouble. Recently has begun to
freeze. Only new factor is recently have been receiving auto updates for
software I don't possess. Also when computer slows or freezes when I have to
then shut down the overall speaker volume diminishes. This has now settled
permanently to almost inaudible with PC and speaker volume controls set at
max. Have no ideas what's going on. Can someone help as I am totally
useless with these things?

Nog enough information supplied. What your computer ,memory, ghz, you may not
have enough memory. What updates are you recieving?

Thanks for responding larry. Dell dimension 3100 with 1 gb RAM, 80 gb drive
and 2.8ghz clock so I don't think it's a problem with memory. Updates are
Microsoft standards although I've been receiving updates for Office which are
failing probably because I don't have Office. Since I've disabled auto
updates the problem hasn't re-occurred. Any ideas would be very much
appreciated.
