I've had the XP upgrade (from ME) for a week now and it keeps freezing up on
me. I usually get to use the PC for a few minutes and then it freezes up.
What causes this and how can I prevent it? I can be online or working on an
file, document etc.

TIA!

Hi

Any error messages that might help? Have you had a look in the Event Viewer
to see if any entries there may point towards the problem?

Please see if the following articles help:

"HOW TO: Troubleshoot Windows XP Problems During Installation When
YouUpgrade from Windows 98 or Windows Me"
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310064&Product=winxp

"HOW TO: Prepare to Upgrade Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition to
Windows XP"

Forget what anyone may tell you - an upgrade form ME to XP never goes well !!!

If you are really stuck I recommend that you do a complete install of XP
from scratch
You need to back up your own data first of course and it takes ages to
reload all your programs but in my experince its worth it.

Choose ntfs and not FAT32 file system
which will probably mean you need to reformat your hard drive

I got a message that my Norton Internet Security 2005 wasn't working and to
uninstall and reinstall. I uninstalled it and when I attempted to reboot, got
a message that read:

"windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt
\windows\sysem32\config\system"

"You can attempt to repair this file by restarting windows setup using the
original setup CD-ROM selct R at the first screeen to start repair."

Followed these directions and still had problems starting so I left my PC
off for a coupld of hours. Just turned it on and am having problems
re-installing the Norton Internet Security 2005 completely! Heck, I even
tried uninstalling it again to see if I can reinstall and still no luck!
Gonna bring the CPU back to Best Buy tomorrow and have them look at it since
they're the ones that did the upgrade.

Since it's been a week since I've had this upgrade, do you suggest that I
purchase a full version of XP?

TIA!

Unless you don't have the media for Windows ME (or any other qualifying
product) why on earth would you need to?! You can use an upgrade to perform
a clean installation.

I have just purchesed a new PC from Dell with Windows XP installed. I have
been able to solve a few problems, however, I use Yahoo IM, and while there I
also play Yahoo interactive games. It seems that I can not shut down the
games window when finished playing, until I shut down the IM window also. It
just freezes and any action to try to unfreeze it causes all display on that
window to erease. Anyone know how to fix this?????
