XP Freezes Everyday

I removed the 1394 PCI Adapter.
The stupid thing is still freezing without any warning.

Next thing I am going to do is to hunt down all the up-to-date drivers.
See if this will help to fix the freezing problem.

Is it freezing and rebooting? Or just freezing and you have to reboot it? Because for my it is just rebooting automatically when I log into windows.

This is totally random.
Sometimes it runs fine all day without problem.
Sometimes it just freezes couple minutes after I start the computer.

But when it hangs, I have to push the reset button. It doesn't reboot
itself.
On the other hand, it does sometimes beep once when it hangs.

I think the beep is casued by some message being displayed in the DOS prompt
behind the screen.

Anyway, so far I've already reinstalled almost all the drivers.

I have noticed that one time when I was playing Starcraft, the music/sound
went out by no reason and then after a minute or so, the stupid thing just
hung right there.

Mine XP (Home Ed) also started to freeze at random after installation of SP1.
Have you had SP 1 installed? Currently I am looking for a solution.

I solved mine by unplugging the DVD rom drive from the primary IDE away from
the Hard Disk.

Check out machine for computer viruses and spy-bots. It also could be a
hardware problem (beeps is the relevant symptom).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

It is probably not caused by SP 1.
